suedehead

iPod's stuck on shuffle. Might have dropped it on a stone floor a wee bit. Display screen might have gone correspondingly blank. Quite possibly, quite possibly. Buttons work, but I can't really see what I'm doing. So that's one thing. To add insult to injury, and this is important, the blow seems to have turned the machine into a rabid Morrissey and Linkin Park fan, which is like travelling back in time to my super-angsty years, aaaaaaand I still know the lyrics of Hybrid Theory, which is a mixed blessing. What has my brain (r)ejected to accommodate all this emo-drivel? Make no mistake, I love emo-drivel, and I think Hybrid Theory boasts some of the finest examples of it. Nevertheless, the involuntary storing of irrelevant data is worthy of a rant.

Of course the madness does not stop at childhood favourites, as well you know. This is a common problem these days, easy to underestimate until you find yourself singing along to Barbie Girl or any other ear-splitting pop song from the nineties you didn't remember existed. And now everyone thinks you're a fan. And it's awkward. Unless they were singing along too, which is more likely, so no harm done, really. But you still wish you could swap the terabytes (or, you know, whatever, I am not good with computer) of lyrics for some basic survival knowledge. What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? What is the capital of Assyria? Where the hell is my umbrella? That sort of elementary stuff. BUT, all the drawbacks notwithstanding, I still feel like some sort of omniscient music wizard when I realize that unbeknownst to me, my mouth has been forming the following words:

It's true / The way I feel
Was promised by your face
The sound of your voice
Painted on my memories
Even if you're not with me
I'm with you
You / Now I see / Keeping everything inside
You / Now I see / Even when I close my eyes

Powerful stuff. Powerful stuff.

To sum up:

Today's reason why Everything is Awesome: the human brain is a wizard.

PS, If you didn't click the link, HERE IT IS AGAIN. It is also today's second reason why Everything is Awesome.
